Prophetic Praise in the Poetry of Ahmed Shawqi and Waleed AlAdhami (A Comparative Study)

Abstract

Despite the abundance of literature and publications addressing the theme of Prophetic praise (Al-Madih Al-Nabawi), this profound poetic genre has not been fully given its due. It suffers from a noticeable scarcity of comprehensive studies regarding the genre itself and its poets, particularly those of the modern era. This deficiency stems from the tendency of most studies to rely primarily on Hamziyyat (poems rhyming in the letter hamza) and Mu'aradat (poetic emulations) as their fundamental subject matter. Consequently, the researcher turned towards this pure poetic purpose, initially exploring the poet Waleed Al-Adhami through an approach that is arguably unprecedented among scholars. Building upon this foundation, the current research presents a comparative study between the Prophetic praise poetry of Waleed Al-Adhami and the poem "Salu Qalbi" (Ask My Heart) by Ahmed Shawqi. The study begins with a brief overview of both Waleed Al-Adhami and Ahmed Shawqi, followed by an elucidation of the methodology used to approach Al-Adhami’s praise poetry, thereby providing the reader with a clear understanding of the comparative framework. The researcher then reviews and analyzes the specific characteristics of the poem before detailing the comparison between the two poets. Ultimately, the study outlines the similarities and differences in their approaches to Prophetic praise, with the hope that this subject will be supported by further academic research in the future, God willing
