Abstract

This study aims to examine the structure of poetic discourse in the poetry of Al-Qadi AlFadil Abd al-Rahim Al-Baysani in light of both classical and modern literary criticism. It seeks to identify the artistic and semantic features of his poetic discourse, explore the mechanisms underlying its construction, and investigate how classical and contemporary critics have approached and interpreted his poetry. The study adopts a descriptiveanalytical approach by examining and analyzing selected poetic texts of Al-Qadi Al-Fadil, one of the most distinguished literary figures of the Fatimid and Ayyubid periods, whose literary creativity was profoundly influenced by his political and administrative experience. The findings reveal that Al-Qadi Al-Fadil’s poetic discourse reflects the personality of a versatile intellectual who combined philosophy, literature, and profound thought. His poetry serves as a faithful representation of human concerns on the individual, social, and civilizational levels, preserving within its structure the history, symbols, experiences, wisdom, and values of humanity. The study also demonstrates that his writings portray the image of the educated Arab intellectual who possessed a deep awareness of the issues of his time. Moreover, his poetry transcended personal emotions by employing moral and social criticism to confront envy, hostility, and negative behaviors, thereby endowing his poetic discourse with significant humanistic, intellectual, and aesthetic dimensions. These characteristics confirm the literary and critical value of his poetry from both classical and modern critical perspectives
